Andrew Simmons IV, DVM

Dr. Simmons was born in Decatur, Alabama and was raised primarily in Selma, Alabama. Every summer for several years he worked for his grandfather on the farm and contemplated thoughts of being a veterinarian. Dr. Simmons had his first job in a veterinary hospital when he was 16 years old, and that is when he made the decision to pursue his education in the field of veterinary medicine.

He attended Auburn University for his entire education attaining a Bachelor of Science in 2000, and a Master’s degree in Agriculture in 2003. He graduated from Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine with his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2008.

After graduation, Dr. Simmons had the opportunity to practice in a six-doctor practice in Las Vegas, Nevada for about 3 years. It is there that he really solidified his veterinary knowledge base. He also took away a good foundation for what fundamentals are necessary to establish a high quality, service oriented veterinary hospital. With that knowledge, he sought to purchase a hospital with a colleague, which brought him to Tallahassee as an owner of Oakwood Animal Hospital, and now Cumberland Animal Clinic. The few hours that Dr. Simmons isn’t at Oakwood or Cumberland Animal Clinic, he enjoys a good golf game, hunting, fishing, and some down time with his border collie, Fred.
